In this method, contrasting layers of colored glass are carefully immersed in clear molten glass, preserving their separation and yielding exceptional depth and vibrant chromatic harmony. Originally developed in the late 1930s by Carlo Scarpa at Venini and further popularized by Seguso Vetri d’Arte and other Murano studios during the 1950s, this craftsmanship exemplifies the highest tradition of mid-20th-century Murano artistry. Dating to approximately 1970–1975, this period marks the height of aesthetic experimentation in Murano, when artisans were pushing the boundaries of color layering and volumetric expression. Inscribed on the belly with “Murano”, the piece is unsigned by an individual artist, but its stylistic affinities evoke the work of studios like V. Nason & Co. or Gino Cenedese, famed for their animal forms realized in sommerso glass. Lack of signature notwithstanding, the sculpture remains a testament to a well-established and celebrated Murano lineage. Wearing a crystal-clear outer layer that houses dynamic, submerged chromatic swirls, this bull exudes a unique balance of raw power and refined elegance. Perfectly poised, it offers an enchanting interplay of light and reflection that shifts with changing illumination—transforming from solid form to ethereal brilliance. This sculpture is an ideal showpiece, imbuing warmth and sophistication into any setting—from a modern bookshelf to a sleek console in an entryway. Condition: Excellent.
