This drawing by the Belgian artist, Paul Daxhelet, is a stunning example. Here he depicts a nude male Pan figure, his arms raised to hold the pipe to his lips, and his powerful torso and legs giving him support like the trunk of a tree. The artist uses waxy crayon or pastel to remarkable effect, and surrounds his Pan with an aureole that adds to his otherworldly appearance. Daxhelet depicted many figures from the world of sports in his early years, and later depicted scenes from East Africa, where he visited with great interest. See less
