This lovely piece was most likely bench made and has sturdy construction techniques throughout. When acquired, it was in very poor cosmetic condition (and by that I mean "really poor"!) and has since been completely stripped and refinished using a process of 3 coats Finishing oil, Turpentine, Polyurethane mix, topped with three hand-rubbed coats of Beeswax, Turpentine and Finishing oil for a beautiful soft patina that we feel shows off the beauty of oak grain and gives the piece a nice aged appearance. At one time, there appears to have been an attached mirror, but that has since been lost. The original antique hardware and pulls have been retained. Also, the piece is shown with and without its two cabinet doors which feature beautiful tiger oak. Although the piece has been refinished, some imperfections purposefully remain - namely surface scratches and scuffs, nail holes where the mirror was attached, and an inch size gouge on the top, all of which were kept so as preserve some of the aged and worn character of the piece consistent with it being over 100 years old. Lastly, please note that other "staging" items in the photos (e.g. the hanging mirror) are not included with the purchase of the sideboard.
We think this could be a nice addition to any somewhat informal and eclectic dining room, or used a small bar cabinet in a den or living room space.
