They … Read more This is a set of four antique ironstone talking plates made by Creil and Montereau in the late 1800s. They were decorated by Charles Hamlet in the series 'Bains de mer' and depict classic stories from Ancient Greece comically interpreted.

In this collection:
Number 4 - Héro and Léandre, The fireman Léandre crosses the Bosphorus to go and extinguish the fires of the beautiful Hero.
Number 7 - Monsieur Mars stop offering me your gingerbread heart, I am fearful of succumbing to so much gallantry.
Number 9 - Apollo has gone to great lengths to dress up (a new cotton cap) to please the beautiful Daphne, who mocks him. (Apollo has made expenses for his toilet (a new cotton hat) to please the beautiful Daphne who mocked him).
Number 12 - Amphitrite was said to be a very light woman, yet it was not Neptune's opinion that carried her away. (Amphitrite was said to be a very light woman, however it isn't the opinion of Neptune who carried her away).

They are striking with lots of detail and with a Steam Punk-esque appearance, they are very collectible and in great condition. This piece has an attribution mark,
