Bronze The Kiss by Auguste Rodin, miniature reproduction for collection
What if you invited love, however sinister, into your home?
A miniature reproduction of the iconic work by the renowned 19th-century sculptor Auguste Rodin, currently housed at the Musée Rodin, this charming bronze sculpture is astonishingly faithful to the original: the anatomical details of the subjects, their expressions between love and despair, are faithful to the original.
The history of Rodin's The Kiss is that of a monument commissioned by France. Commissioned by the French state in 1888 and sculpted between 1888 and 1898, it depicts Paolo and Francesca, characters from The Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Killed by Francesca's husband, who caught them kissing, the two lovers were condemned to wander the Underworld.
Entering the collections of the Musée du Luxembourg in 1901 and transferred to the Musée Rodin in 1919, this work parallels the same creative circuit as Rodin's legendary The Gates of Hell, and features characters from works inspired by the Liturgy and Renaissance novels about the Underworld.
Both hated by its own creator, who considered this work his "Great Curio," and popularly loved by the Parisian public, its appearance at the Paris World's Fairs contributed to the renown of its creator and his studio.
A true poem frozen in stone, Auguste Rodin's The Kiss is both beautiful and enigmatic, as we don't know who the extras in this work were. Some would say they were Camille Claudel and Rodin himself, others simply extras. In any case, forbidden love is depicted.
Lovers of great French sculptors and figurative love, don't wait any longer and adopt this bronze reproduction of Rodin's The Kiss!
