The bronze is unusually large, and I've very rarely seen Japanese bronzes for canes, this one probably dates to the first half of the 20th century when canes would have been more popular. The vase is decorated with typical geometric repeating patterns on the large panels as well as raised floral and bird decorations as well as some decorative ring form handles. This piece came out of a very large local estate sale of an 18th century farmhouse; this was one of the newer pieces in the sale!
