A very Fine Writing Desk by Paul Sormani. Sormani, counted among the most elite Parisian ébénistes of the 19th century, Lovely Gilt Bronze Mounted XV period C1880s. Stamped P. Sormani on Lock.
This elegant French Louis XVI style writing table exudes refined neoclassical charm and exquisite craftsmanship. The rectangular top features a beautifully preserved tooled leather writing surface, bordered by a fine gilt bronze trim.
Crafted from mahogany and kingwood veneer, the desk showcases superb ormolu mounts, including detailed allegorical motifs on the drawer fronts—such as musical instruments and floral swags—typical of 18th-century French design. Slender, tapered legs are accented with fluted bronze inlays and terminate in delicate bronze sabots.
