Comprising two stacking sections, of rectangular form with five drawers and a side safe compartment, the solid wood case fitted with elaborate black-lacquered iron hardware including warabite-shaped handles, corner braces, lock plates, and cross-straps, the whole raised on later short feet. The chest displays the characteristic boldness of Sendai joinery, with robust fittings designed both for function and as a declaration of status.
