This charming Japanese tsubo jar from the 1950s is entirely handcrafted using traditional techniques.
Dimensions: height 32.5 cm, diameter 34 cm.
Made of terracotta, the piece carries an authentic, organic presence that perfectly reflects the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic.
The jar features a rounded, powerfully curved body that rises into a short, slightly flared neck. Its surface is raw and expressive, bearing visible traces of the hand-forming process along with subtle horizontal striations in the clay. During the wood-fired kiln process, beautiful earthy variations emerged, ranging from warm reddish-brown tones to deeper, darker accents. These natural shifts in color and texture give the vessel a timeworn, characterful appearance.
The jar remains in perfect condition and stands out as a striking decorative object on its own. It is also ideally suited as a wabi-sabi vase for flowers or branches.
A unique and highly decorative piece that embodies the essence of Japanese ceramic tradition – pure, timeless, and full of quiet beauty.
