A signed Murano art glass altar candlestick or torchère, attributed to Seguso Vetri d’Arte, mid-20th century. The design is a striking example of postwar Italian glasswork, featuring a subtly iridized, olive-toned, fluted domed base supporting a clear blown cylindrical shaft with flares of interior silver waves, which rises to a cupped candleholder with a central pricket. The glass bowl exhibits a faint smokey-grey hue and iridescent luster at the pricket base, playing with light in a way characteristic of Seguso’s refined color work. The base is scalloped with radial fluting and is etched along the interior edge: Seguso Vetri d’Arte. Retains partial foil label with traces of the firm’s circular stamp.
This sculptural form exemplifies the studio’s mid-century ecclesiastical and decorative production, likely created as a sanctuary or altar accessory, though its minimalist elegance also aligns with the modernist interior design trends of the 1950s–60s.
