It is finished … Read more A lovely Swedish dining table in classic Gustavian style dating from the middle of the 19th century. It is finished in a pleasing blue gray color. It should be noted that in the photos, the top appears lighter than the base but this is the result of photographic lighting. The base and top are the same color. There are two ends sections of the table with an insertable leaf. The dimensions below are with the leaf in. Without the leaf, the length of the table is 71 3/4”. Without the leaf 4 or 6 are comfortable, with the leaf 8 or 10 (if they are friends a don’t mind a little crowding). A pair of leaf guides were added sometime, probably in the 20th century, to make the insertion of the leaf easier. This is a common, removable addition found on many early Swedish tables. Also leaf locks were added at some time which make the table very stable with the leaf in. They are a useful convenience. The tapered legs have edge molding that add to the light look of the table. This is a sturdy, useful table that easily converts in size and can be used on a daily basis. The knee height of 24 3/4” makes it most comfortable to sit at. It was found near Borlange, north of Stockholm. See less
