1900s Wool Antique Hand Knotted Pile Blue Rectangle Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exquisite example of early 20th-century weaving showcases the refined aesthetic of Chinese design. The dense, hand-knotted wool pile presents a deeply saturated indigo field, providing a dramatic backdrop for the delicate ornamentation. This piece is characteristic of the finest antique rugs produced during this period of cultural transition.

The central medallion area is intentionally sparse, allowing the rich, velvety blue to dominate. Scattered across the field are highly stylized bouquets featuring birds perched on flowering branches, rendered in soft ivory, pale blue, and subtle pink tones. The use of a deep, almost midnight blue color rugs creates a striking visual depth, a hue often favored in Chinese textiles for its symbolic resonance.

A broad, contrasting border frames the composition in a warm, muted salmon hue. This border is densely populated with repeating floral sprays, butterflies, and stylized corner elements, providing a lively counterpoint to the sobriety of the central field. The craftsmanship speaks to a high level of technical skill, typical of pieces designed for export or affluent domestic markets.

Perfectly scaled for an entryway, dressing room, or as an accent piece, this elegant textile functions beautifully as a small scatter size rug. Its enduring color palette and timeless motifs ensure it remains a sophisticated addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors, offering a tangible connection to the artistry of the early 1900s.
