Signed lower right, 'Andre Regagnon' (French, 1902-1976) and painted circa 1935; additionally signed on label verso.
A substantial and lyrical 'Intimiste' work showing an interior scene with a seated woman playing solitaire by the soft light of an oil lamp.
Andre Firmin Regagnon first studied with Jules Adler and, beginning in 1926, exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français where he received an honorable mention in 1929, a silver medal in 1930, and a gold medal in 1931. In 1933, he was awarded the Prix National and, in 1937, a Silver Medal at the Exposition Internationale. A notable mid-century painter of genre scenes and figurative works, he exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous other prizes, medals and juried awards. Andre Firmin Regagnon is well-listed in all relevant art reference works including Benezit and Thieme-Becker.
