A magnificent bronze sculpture depicting a pair of chamois, set on a royal yellow marble base. The sculpture is signed "Guido Cacciapuoti," a prominent artist of Neapolitan origins who worked in Milan. The sculpture was created in the Neo-Impressionist style, with soft contours and very soft lines, in keeping with the canons of the Impressionist style. The sculpture's patina is marvelous, dating back to the early decades of the 20th century. The two chamois, courting each other, are depicted in a delicate pose, sniffing each other gently. Notice the beauty of the animals' coats and muscles, superbly crafted. This sculpture, made of bronze, is particularly rare, a material rarely used by Guido Cacciapuoti, who usually used ceramic, stoneware, or porcelain in his artistic production. This rare and highly collectible piece is a must-have.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
from an online search, we found that Guido Cacciapuoti boasts numerous auction results, and the four highest results we found range from €3,750 to €19,000, plus 25-30% buyer's premium, for a large group of red-glazed angelfish resting on a large wooden base, 180 cm high. We also found many of his ceramic sculptures, always depicting animals, offered by other sellers on major online art and antiques marketplaces, with prices ranging from a minimum of €500-600 for the smallest pieces to €4,000-5,000 for the largest ones. We also found our own bronze sculpture, quoted €1,500-2,000 by Cambi of Genoa, at the "19th and 20th century sculpture" auction on March 28, 2024, lot 145 entitled "Guido Cacciapuoti (1892 - 1953), Two antelopes".
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Guido Cacciapuoti, born in Naples in 1892, comes from an ancient family of majolica makers, from whom he learned the secrets of ceramic art. In 1927, he founded "Grès e ceramiche d'arte" in Milan with his brother. A highly talented modeler, he gained recognition for his beautiful sculptures, especially animal subjects. In 1930, due to the premature death of his brother, he became sole owner of the company. The factory immediately enjoyed great success and became internationally renowned, especially for the sculptures created by Guido Cacciapuoti, who died in 1953 and is now considered one of the most important Italian ceramists of the first half of the 20th century. In the last photo, immediately after the object, we have included biographical information on Guido Cacciapuoti for those who would like to learn more.
