Edgar Degas
Three women at the salon
Original engraving (etching and aquatint) after a monotype
On Rives Vellum 25 x 32 cm
INFORMATION: Around 1880, Degas began a series of monotypes inspired by Parisian brothels. These works remain in his personal collection and are bought in the early 20s by Ambroise Vollard (the
famous merchant of Picasso, Cézanne, Renoir or Georges Rouault). He entrusts them to Maurice Potin who puts them on copper and makes the draw. Vollard eventually published them around 1935 in two
portfolios drawn to about 350 copies.
The proposed engraving comes from the archives of the engraver Maurice Potin.
