Vase on a black glass base, signed Orrefors and Vicke Lindstrand and numbered 1220.01.1(?)

Orrefors is a Swedish glassworks founded in 1898, originally producing medical and household glass.
In 1913, it changed ownership and took a new direction, manufacturing crystal glasses and objects. Traditional glassmaking methods were perfected, resulting in the "Holy Grail" glass.
with this technique, the pattern created with colored glass is encased in layers of clear glass, preserving the image while the overall shape of the glass is worked and shaped.
Orrefors achieved great success at both the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1923 and the Paris Exhibition in 1925.

Vicke Lindstrand joined Orrefors in the 1930s. Along with glassblowers, he created the "ariel" glass technique, an innovation that produced deeper, richer images that appeared to transform and flow as light refracted through the glass.
