Frances Goodman is a South African contemporary artist known for her multidisciplinary practice, including installation, photography, sculpture, and sequin paintings.
While she is widely recognized for works utilizing unconventional materials like acrylic nails and false eyelashes to explore themes of female identity and societal pressures, her oeuvre also includes a series of works she refers to as "Pillars".
These "Pillars" are described as ceramic structures of pills, assembled to form colorful towers, and conceptually relate to the altering of one's state, whether through medication or other means of escaping or enhancing reality.
The title "Pillar of Light" aligns with the visual depiction of a prominent, colorful, vertical structure in the center of the artwork, characteristic of her "Pillars" series, and the signature "F. Goodman" is consistent with her name, Frances Goodman.
