It emerged as a reaction against the perceived decorative and fragmented nature of Cubism, seeking a more classical and timeless aesthetic inspired by modern technology and industrial production.
Purist paintings often featured still lifes of mass-produced objects, reduced to geometric forms and depicted with clarity and smooth brushwork.
The movement's theories were outlined in the book "Après le Cubisme" (After Cubism) by Ozenfant and Le Corbusier, and further explored in their avant-garde review "L'Esprit Nouveau".
