Odoardus' scarce plate showing st. Eustatius/eustace and st. Odoardus. After one of the frescoes painted by domenico zapieri for the abbey of grottaferrata (near rome). This abbey was founded by st. John the baptist. The frescoes were commissioned from domenichino (domenico zampieri) by cardinal odoardo farnese; the titular abbot of this abbey. This print originates from 'picturae dominici zampierii, vulgo domenichino, quae extant in sacello sacrae aedi cryptoferratensi adjuncto tabulis aeneis incisae' published 1762. Artists and engravers: made by 'a. Capellan' after 'domenico zampieri' antonio capellan (venice, ca. 1740– rome, 1793) was an italian engraver, active in a neoclassical style. Domenico zampieri (october 21, 1581 – april 6, 1641) was an italian baroque painter of the bolognese or carracci school of painters. Condition: good, given age. Some staining in the margins. A few spots, mainly in the margins. Two tiny worm holes upper right margin, not affecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
