This engaging engraving titled 'Gari' (Cart) is plate number 7 from Collection de Planches pour servir au Voyage aux Indes Orientales et à la Chine by Pierre Sonnerat, issued in its second edition in 1806 by Dentu in Paris.

It is part of an important series of plates illustrating Indian life, drawn from direct observation during Sonnerat’s travels in the Indian subcontinent in the 1770s. The scene presents a bullock cart, a traditional form of transportation widely used in India, particularly for long-distance travel and ceremonial processions. The cart is shown with its large wooden wheels, a domed canopy over the passenger compartment, and a richly ornamented yoke. One man sits inside the shaded cabin, likely a traveler or figure of higher status, while the driver, seated at the front crossbar, guides the oxen with reins.
