Rectangle Room Size 1930s Coral Knotted Chinese – Art Deco Antique Wool Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This magnificent example of Chinese Art Deco weaving captures the sophisticated aesthetic of the interwar period. The deep, saturated field, characteristic of high-quality coral color dyes, provides a dramatic backdrop for the stylized motifs.

The design eschews traditional borders, allowing the rich field color to dominate. Instead, four distinct clusters of delicately rendered blossoms drift across the surface, a hallmark of the Art Deco interpretation of traditional Chinese floral rugs. The composition is asymmetrical yet perfectly balanced, creating visual movement across the wool pile.

Knotted in durable wool, this piece was designed for longevity and impact. Its substantial dimensions classify it among the finest room size rugs produced during this era, capable of anchoring a grand living space or formal dining room with its rich texture and commanding presence. The quality of the knotting ensures the longevity of this textile art.

Representing a fascinating cross-cultural fusion of Eastern craftsmanship and Western modernist taste, this rug is more than a floor covering; it is a historical statement. It remains a superb example within our collection of exceptional antique rugs, offering both historical provenance and unparalleled decorative appeal. See less
