Vintage Norwegian Folk Art Hand Painted Rosemaling Wood Stave Umbrella-Cane Stand 1970's
Vintage Norweigian Rosemaling umbrella - walking stick stand made in a barrel stave style. Rosemaling is a Norwegian decorative folk painting tradition, meaning "rose painting," that emerged in the 1700s. It features elaborate, stylized floral designs and flowing scrolls painted onto wood and other surfaces, with distinct regional styles like the free-flowing Telemark style. The art form, which began with peasants and farmers, was a way to beautify and decorate wooden objects and architectural features in homes and churches.
This stand dates to the late 20th century, circa 1970s, and is in nice condition with brilliant florals, staves are tight. Measures 24" high, 10.75" wide, and 7.5" deep. This has some scuff scratches on the back and on one side.
