The tapestry, likely originating from a larger Baroque or Rococo hanging, displays the muted, naturally aged palette typical of vegetable-dyed wool — soft ochres, moss greens, indigo blues, and earth tones with a wonderfully timeworn patina that you can old get with true antiques and age. The upholstered tapestry top is bordered with a later suede leather trim that frames the textile and protects the older edges. It rests on a well-carved Louis XV - style wooden base with a scalloped apron, foliate carving, and curved cabriole legs. There is a nailhead trim detail that follows the beautiful shape of the upholstery. The wood base appears to be antique from the early 1900's. The size of this piece makes it extremely versatile.
