Exotic French ceramic vase from the 1980s with an animal design inspired by Andean art.
The design is reminiscent of artistic representations from pre-Columbian cultures such as the Nazca due to the use of linear lines and the stylized, minimalist way of depicting the figures. The vase features a drawing of what appear to be South American camelids (possibly llamas or alpacas), jaguars, turtles, elephants, and armadillos, which are emblematic and recurring animals in the art and iconography of various pre-Columbian cultures of the Andean region, with the exception of the elephant. It features a globular silhouette with a prominent, curved neck and a wide mouth, with a body that is wide at the top and narrow at the base. The neck and animal design are colored a deep brick hue, and the rest of the body is a soft cream. See less
