James Coignard, French (1925-2008) "Etude Masse Rouge (Red Mass Study)" Mixed Media Hand-Embellished Etching on Carborundum Deckled Edge Paper. Artist signed and numbered "47/95" in pencil.
James Coignard was a French artist known for his contributions to modern art through his innovative use of color and form, and the use of carborundum printing. Born in 1925 in Paris, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. Coignard associated with contemporary artists such as Jean Cocteau and Max Papart. He passed away in 2008 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. According to Coignard, "the painter is, like everybody, witness of his time. I focus in my paintings on the anguishes and agressions of mankind by my gesture of anger, dynamism and also of hope."
