Pair of 19th century French marquise bergères in the Louis XV style. The wide format, known as a marquise, bridges the scale between armchair and petite settee.
Their giltwood and gesso frames are finely detailed with scrolling arms, crested backs, and cabriole legs with scroll feet. Reupholstered in the early 2000s, the pair now features bold leopard-print cashmere velvet with deep red velvet on the reverse, accented by contrasting trim and matching pillows. The chairs combine historic craftsmanship with striking modern upholstery.
Provenance: Estate of Robert & Rosemarie Stack, Bel Air.
They remain in excellent condition, with sturdy frames, clean fabric, and gilt surfaces that show only natural signs of age.
