information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the "società ceramica colonnata" factory for the production of tableware and artistic ceramics was founded in sesto fiorentino, in the province of florence, in 1891 by vittorio buccarelli, ugo ciapini, alfredo contini, aristodemo puliti, ugo tacconi, and olimpo zoppi. After initially producing eclectic styles, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the factory achieved great success thanks to its high-quality art nouveau production, often created by great painters such as giovan battista ciampi. In 1893, it received its first award, a gold medal at the world's columbian exposition in chicago, which allowed it to increase production and the number of employees, reaching 20 in 1896. In 1900, the company exhibited its products at the universal exposition in paris. From the second half of the first decade until 1912, alfredo ciulli worked for the company as a painter and decorator. From the end of the first decade of the century, the ceramist zulimo aretini collaborated with the factory for a short period. In 1913, the company purchased a building and some land to build its new factory. After the problems caused by the war, which almost wiped out production, in the 1920s, colonnata produced tableware and decorative and functional ceramics in the 1900s style, often decorated with airbrushing. Among the collaborators active at the factory in the 1920s and 1930s were mario filippucci and vittorio faggi. The factory ceased production in 1937 and, in 1938, was sold to "arte ceramica italiana," owned by giorgio barraud, wais guarnieri, and nello messeri, who continued production under the name "arte della ceramica italiana la colonnata." in the years immediately following world war ii, a new company called "colonnata" was founded in sesto fiorentino at via f. Bietoletti 15. The production, consisting of ceramics and earthenware for the home and furnishings in rustic and modern styles, achieved a certain level of interest in its airbrush decorations. In 1964, the company, which is still active today, was purchased by arduino conforti and lelio fiorelli and took on the new name "a.c.f." (arte ceramica fiorentina).
