Note the holes in the … Read more A stunning, acid-treated majolica ceramic perfume diffuser box, depicting a stylized crouching hen, entirely hand-sculpted. Note the holes in the lid, for example, each slightly different from the next. Made in a Futurist style and dated around 1920-1930. Potpourri (a composition of dried flower petals and essential oils, normally used to scent rooms) is placed inside, and its scent escapes through the holes in the lid. Made in the early decades of the 20th century, it is signed "Baldelli Italy" under the base and bears a catalog number, created by Dante Baldelli. The decoration, featuring bands of yellow triangles on a heavily acid-treated gray background, adorns the entire upper part of the box, a clear element of Futurist art.
