In these testing times it's become easy to turn inwards rather than looking outwards into the world. In a painting that is archetypical of Sax Berlin Angel of Peace is a reflection of how our world has changed. Started in 2017 but remaining unfinished until Berlin knew how to conclude it, Angel of Peace is now ready to be seen. The technique, egg tempera, is a medieval one of hand ground pigments dissolved in an emulsion miscible with water and crushed marble for depth highlighted with sumptuous gold leaf. Elevated by Berlin to a higher level Angel of Peace is reminiscent of Botticelli and Michelangelo but with a deeper, heavier effect.
Hand ground pigments, crushed marble and pure gold leaf.
