Offered here is an extraordinary piece of art glass: a hand-blown pale green Murano style glass vase attributed to Barovier … Read more Offered here is an extraordinary piece of art glass: a hand-blown pale green Murano style glass vase attributed to Barovier & Toso made in Italy in the 1960s. This pieces is not signed, nor does it have any labels. The attribution to Barovier & Toso is based on similar pieces formerly offered by Olson House. Barovier & Toso is an Italian company that specializes in Venetian glass. It is one of the oldest family businesses in the world, founded in 1295. The company remains in business today, located in the Palazzo Contarini in Murano, Italy.

Smooth concave pontil. Twisted vertical "ropes" of glass down both sides. The clarity of the glass is fantastic .In areas where the glass is thicker (like the base and the applied ropes), the pale green color is more pronounced. In the bowl of the vase where the glass is thinner, the color is much more pale. (Because its pale color makes it difficult to photograph, I have included images against both a dark and light background).

This piece stands 12". Measuring across the top from the outer edge of one rope twist across to the outer edge of the other rope twist, I get about 7". The diameter of the opening is 4 1/4". The diameter of the base is about 3".

Exceptional condition with no chips, cracks, or unusual wear. Absolutely lovely. A very dramatic statement piece ... and heavy - weighs more than 6 pounds! See less
