Item description:
Majolica ceramic jug, entirely hand-decorated with the word "Montecatini" in the center, signed under the base by the manufacturer "CAMA DERUTA" and catalog number. The vase dates back to between 1950 and 1970. The design of the object is very distinctive, reminiscent of futurist forms even though it is clearly an expression of 1950s design. In our opinion, it can be attributed to Serafino Volpi.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From an internet search, we find that Serafino Volpi's most distinctive vases in terms of shape and decoration, such as our jug, are offered for sale or auction at a minimum of €200 and up to over €400-500. Then there are others, much simpler, offered at even lower prices.
Final considerations on the item:
Note the beauty of the white decorations, all in slight relief, on a black background. Finally, the red and blue decorations finished with acid are particularly noteworthy, outlined in some places by small white dots, also in relief, all done by hand with a brush by the decorator, not to mention the two central flamingos, each different from the other in full futurist style. Finally, the most beautiful and distinctive feature is the glazing of the main body of the jug, created using an unusual technique that gives the object the distinct impression of being made of wood.
