The work brings together ten original etchings of the iconic Mont Saint-Michel, each plate individually numbered and signed by the artist, along with woodcut decorations and a printed introduction. Published in Paris by A. and M. Vernant and printed at the renowned École Municipale Estienne, this edition was strictly limited to 100 copies, of which this is copy number 49, printed on fine Van Gelder paper. Arthur Mayeur’s etchings capture the dramatic coastal landscape of Mont Saint-Michel, the famous tidal island and abbey located off the coast of Normandy. His careful linework highlights the medieval architecture, winding streets, and dramatic tides that have made the site one of France’s most recognizable landmarks. Each print is protected by its original titled tissue guard, emphasizing the care given to presentation. The artist’s skill is equally evident in the accompanying woodcut decorations, which echo the style of medieval manuscript borders and further root the edition in the historic spirit of the subject.
