Map and coastal view of the islands within the Queen Charlotte's Islands (Santa Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands) by Phillip Carteret, July-August 1767 on the Swallow. The first European to Nukutavake was Englishman Samuel Wallis in 1767. He named it Queen Charlotte Island (French/ Reine Charlotte). Originates from 'History of the voyages and discoveries in the South Seas undertaken by order of His Great British Majesty, and made by Commodore Byron, Captain Wallis, Captain Carteret and Captain Cook in the Dolphin, the Swallow and the Endeavour successively (\.)'.
