Item description:
Extremely rare anthropomorphic vase in ceramic, hand-modeled on a potter's wheel and decorated by hand, with a figure of a man with a hat and umbrella on one side and a similar but different figure on the back, with a basket of fruit, hand-engraved on the ceramic with gouges and tools, and then partially glazed and vitrified in a second firing, while the rest of the vase is in unglazed raw ceramic, numbered under the base, made in Italy and attributable to the Fanciullacci brothers' factory. The vase can be dated to around the mid-20th century.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From our internet research, we have found that vases very similar to ours are all attributed to the "Fratelli Fanciullacci" factory and offered at very high prices. We found one attributed to the same manufacturer on the Internet that has already been sold, unfortunately it is not possible to see the sale price, and another, signed in the same way, offered on Pamono for €680 and also attributed to the same manufacturer. The description on the Pamono listing states that the attribution of the object was made on the basis of archival documents, period catalogs, and other literary sources. For this reason, we can attribute the authorship of our vase with certainty to the "Fratelli Fanciullacci" factory. We also found numerous other vases, with the same workmanship, also manufactured by "Fratelli Fanciullacci," all offered on the Internet at very high prices, ranging from around €500 to over €1,100. Two vases are very similar to ours, one also with engraved human figures, offered at €795, and another with an engraved green glazed horse, offered at €695.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The "Ceramiche Artistiche Fratelli Fanciullacci" factory was founded in Montelupo Fiorentino by Raffaello Fanciullacci (1803-1881) in 1862. This prominent Italian manufacturer boasts numerous auction successes, hundreds of collectors, and collaborations with many important Italian artists, including Vincenzo Ossani, Lorenzo and Giovacchino Canneri, Dino and Mario Scappini, Bruno Bagnoli, Benvenuto Staderini, Aldo Londi, and Bruno Cini. Production ceased definitively in 1988, and some of the factory's works are now preserved in the Faenza Ceramics Museum. In the last photo, we have included historical information about the factory for those who wish to learn more.
