This French oil on canvas painting from the 1800s depicts a landscape with seemingly out-of-place classical architecture at dusk. The artist did a wonderful job of capturing the time of day, as noted by the darker tones in the surrounding trees and cloudy sky. In the manner of Hubert Robert, who was an 18th century French landscape painter who was known for his depictions of architectural fantasies (known as cappricio).
