Early work was impressionistic and hard abstract. Carola later developed a more mature way of working in a colourful exploration of the subject.
Colour was her main interest and she often went over a work again and again as colourful, surreal, whimsical and often bizarre forms appeared. She described the process as " frustrating, mysterious and exciting".
