Description of the item:
Delightful bronze bust depicting a young boy wearing a hat, mounted on a travertine marble base, created by Neapolitan sculptor Francesco Paolo Michetti and signed "F.P. Michetti" on the shoulder, dating back to the early decades of the 20th century. The work is entitled "Il Contadinello" (The Little Farmer). The bronze has a very dark patina, the color of London smoke. The antique patina covering the object is also very beautiful, perfectly in line with our dating.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
Francesco Paolo Michetti was a highly important artist who boasts numerous auction results. Our online research shows that the four highest results achieved by his works in the paintings category range from €100,000 to €170,000 plus auction fees (25-30%), in the "paintings - oils on canvas" category, with a maximum of €170,000. In the sculpture category, the four highest results range from €1,040 to €3,000, again plus auction fees. It should be noted that the result of €1,040 was obtained by a sculpture identical to ours, "Il Contadinello," although for the record, we also found works like ours sold for a minimum of €350 up to the aforementioned €1,040. This proves that auction results are always very unpredictable.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Francesco Paolo Michetti (1851 - 1929) was an Italian painter, photographer, and politician, one of the most important Italian artistic figures of the late 19th century and early 20th century, and is considered the father of Italian Impressionism. The painter's international fame was such that Vittorio Emanuele III decided to appoint him Senator of the Kingdom on April 4, 1909. He died in March 1929 in his convent in Francavilla, in front of which a bronze statue depicting him in full figure was erected in 1938.
