The back of this figure has a notch that had a sliding lock used on a door as an extra functional art piece. The doors of the Dogon tribes of Mali use these locks and doors to protect a window like opening into each family‘s grain storage building. These figures serve to protect both the sanctity of life-giving and the food contained inside. Signs of age and use. Original small metal ring decorations on the ears along with detailed carvings.
