This set of four ribbed green glass soda bottles was produced for Schille Beverages of Columbus, Ohio, around the late 1920s to mid-1930s. Each bottle features the embossed Schille name and vertical ribbing, a design typical of the pre-ACL era when bottlers relied on reusable “house” bottles for multiple soda flavors. These are in used condition.
Collectors place these within early 20th-century soda bottling history, making them both decorative and historically significant. Displayed together, they highlight the transition from embossed glass to painted-label soda packaging.
A Brief History:
Peter Schille, an Alsace-Lorraine immigrant, established his beverage company in Columbus, Ohio, in the late 19th century. The firm bottled sodas well into the 20th century, adopting ACL labeling by the 1940s for products such as Black Kow. These ribbed green bottles represent the earlier embossed era of Schille Beverages, when house bottles were reused across soda lines.
