A rare and sculptural mid-century modern pendant lamp in the style of Modeline of California, known for their bold lighting designs of the 1950s and 1960s. This piece is unmarked and bears no designer label or signature. Its design, with teak wood framing, brass accents, and a tall linen shade, reflects the organic, dramatic forms often associated with California modern lighting and the Pearsall era.
The lamp casts a warm, atmospheric glow when lit, making it a striking addition to dining spaces, living rooms, or entryways. Both functional and collectible, it stands as a statement piece for the discerning mid-century enthusiast.
Dimensions
Height: 20"
Width: 10.75"
Circumference: 28.5"
Chain length: approx. 12 ft
Condition
Overall in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The linen shade is intact with no tears, showing light, even discoloration from age. The teak frame retains its original finish with only minor surface scuffs. Brass edging at the top and bottom is well preserved, with just light scuffing, while the chain displays natural patina and oxidation appropriate to its vintage character. One teak finial tip has a small area of loss, visible in photos; this can be oriented toward the ceiling if desired, making it unobtrusive in use.
Additional Details
This is a swag-style lamp, designed to hang from two ceiling hooks and “swag” the chain toward a nearby wall outlet — a fashionable installation method in the 1960s and 70s that remains both functional and decorative today. The lamp retains its original wiring and chain and is in full working order.
