A cast glass sculpture by the Japanese artist Naomi Shioya (born 1961). Titled "Sing Each Song VI," this work incorporates a traditional vase shape at the top attached to a white egg-shaped form that accents the top of a geometric form. The side of the sculpture is signed.
Born in Tokyo, Shioya graduated in 1985 from the first glass program at Tama Art University. Shioya's art changed after she moved to Marseilles, France with her husband in 1990s where she was affected by the plight of Muslim Algerian immigrants. For a time, she felt the creating beauty through her glass was pointless and in response, she began writing poetry to address and work through her thoughts. After writing poetry for a year, she began working with glass again but abandoned glassblowing in favor of creating cast glass works.
