John Pym was a prominent member of the English Parliament (1621–43) and an architect of Parliament’s victory over King Charles I in the first phase (1642–46) of the English Civil Wars. Pym also was largely responsible for the system of taxation that survived in England until the 19th century and for the enduring close relations between the English government and the City of London. This print originates from 'The Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain, engraven by Mr. Houbracken, and Mr. Vertuewith their Lives and Characters by Thomas Birch, A.M., F.R.S'.
