It is an ancient-style wine glass in the tradition of the Roman originals. Vessels like this were popular in Europe since the 15th Century, especially in the Rhineland area. Even Goethe, Schiller and von Humboldt enjoyed a fine wine from this type of glass. The ribbed base of the wine glass is decorated with beautiful berry-shaped glass knobs.

This type of wine glass also has its roots in the 'Forest Glass' (German: 'Waldglas') which have been crafted following the tradition of the techniques of the former German forest glassworks.
