Magnificent majolica jug with a wide banded handle, entirely handcrafted on a wheel, glazed with thick, compact, feldspar-rich glazes that allowed for rich vitrification in the second firing. It is entirely hand-decorated with a heraldic shield featuring a ruby-red Florentine lily in the center, and a second stylized yellow Florentine lily above the upper edge of the shield. Decorated with large Renaissance-style flowers on a white background, similar to Raphaelesque designs. This unsigned piece is attributable to the Montelupo Florentine factory and dates to the second half of the 18th century, based on its shape, the type of majolica used, the excellent patina, and the rich vitrification. The presence of the Florentine lily in the decoration is classic for Florentine production, confirming our attribution of the jug to the Montelupo Fiorentino factory. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
