Item description:
Extremely rare, large sculpture depicting an eagle in cast ceramic, also known as soft porcelain, glazed and vitrified, entirely hand-decorated with an airbrush, made in Vienna by Alexandre Forster, signed under the base with the mark of his manufacturer, dating back to the late 19th century. The expressiveness of the subject depicted is remarkable. Note the beauty of the eagle's pose, or the beauty of its plumage, rich in nuances, with bright and contrasting colors, which give a chiaroscuro effect of great value. The rich vitrification is also particularly valuable, making the object diaphanous and brilliant, a real touch of class for a very rare object of excellent size, antique and of the highest artistic importance.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Through some internet research, we found two sculptures by the same artist, a small lady, offered on the Internet by other sellers for almost €630, significantly smaller than this large eagle, and a pair of falcons, in soft white porcelain, similar in size, offered for €590 on Pamono, to give an idea of the value of ceramics made by this artist. Bear in mind that white porcelain is worth much less than polychrome porcelain. In fact, the lady, although much smaller, is offered at a higher price than the large pair of white falcons. Imagine the value of this large eagle, polychrome and entirely decorated by hand, which in our opinion is worth significantly more than the two sculptures found and mentioned above.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Alexandre Forster was an important artist and sculptor who trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and founded his own workshop in 1861. This workshop employed the most famous artists of the time to create important artistic sculptures of the highest quality, comparable in artistic merit to those of Goldscheider, which was one of the most important and famous Austrian workshops in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Alexandre Forster is considered a pioneer and one of the leading Viennese exponents in the creation of similar plastic sculptures, made with great attention to detail and great skill. In the last photo, we have included historical information about the factory, with many of the brands used, including ours, taken from one of our books in French.
