It seems to have been executed to document the moment: the arrival of the fleet and the landing of sailors and officers. The presence of a character on the left is ambiguous, seemingly intent on flogging a man or a woman, perhaps a slave or prisoner. Although the painting shows some anatomical flaws in the foreground figures, it must be said that the painter expertly reproduced the boats and galleons, which are depicted in great detail, with characters engaged in maneuvers and nautical tasks. The painting is presented on its original canvas and in excellent condition. Its fir wood frame is original and contemporary with the painting. It is likely to be a production from the Marche region area. A certificate of authenticity is attached to the sale. See less
