Description of the item:
Beautiful, rare pair of mascots from the Napoleonic period, from the British or French army, which used children in military uniform in their armies to represent the various regiments, mainly as a good luck charm for battle, but also to accustom them to military life from an early age. Made in the second half of the 19th century, in vitrified hard-paste porcelain, polychrome, entirely decorated by hand, marked on the bottom, on the back, with the mark of the German manufacturer Koppelsdorf, founded in 1864.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
In the last photo, we have included some additional historical information about the manufacturer, taken from one of our books in French, with many of the marks used, including ours. The first marks used by the manufacturer are similar to ours, with two crossed sticks in blue underglaze, used in the 19th century. Our mark is number 2, used specifically between 1864 and 1880. The Koppelsdorf factory was founded in Thuringia, Germany, in 1864. The factory's artistic production was inspired by leading German manufacturers such as Meissen, Dresden, and KPM in Vienna.
