Item description:
a stunning double-layered blown glass vase in the shape of a chalice, made with two layers of glass, one orange and the other white for the bowl, and dark red for the stem, with a matte finish achieved by treating the glass with acid. Created by carlo moretti, a renowned murano artist, it dates back to around 1960. The shape of the vase is very beautiful, noting the beauty of the color shades ranging from dark red on the stem to darker orange at the bottom of the cup, gradually becoming brighter towards the mouth of the cup, where the white glass inside captures more light, illuminating the orange glass outside.
useful information for evaluating the object:
our internet research shows that carlo moretti has achieved significant auction results, with the four highest prices found on art price ranging from over €9,000 to €14,493 (over €18,000 including fees) for a lot of vases and glasses sold by christie's in new york, usa, at the "decorative arts europe" on october 18, 2012, lot number 447, entitled "collectible goblets" decanters & flutes (1990/2012)". Then we found a single vase, which was sold at auction for €4,400, excluding auction fees of 25-30%, by della rocca in turin, italy, at the "vetri di murano" auction on december 21, 2020, lot no. 737, entitled "vase from the mille molature series (1984)". Finally, we found another vase, sold for over €3,000, again excluding fees, by christie's in london, uk, at the "modern design" auction on october 20, 1999, lot number 75, entitled "applique vase (c.1975)". Finally, we found a vase with a shape very similar to ours, valued at €180-200, at trionfante casa d'aste s.r.l. In palermo, italy, at the "design" auction on october 17, 2020, lot no. 1047 "collectible glass (1980)". However, this vase is made of a single piece of glass, glossy, single-colored, yellowish in tone, while ours is opaque, meaning it has been treated with acid and coated with white glass on the inside, making it much more complex and valuable than the one that went to auction. Furthermore, the trionfante auction house, which listed the vase, is an auction house located in sicily that is well known for its low prices, in order to attract a greater number of bidders.
