Great antique wood box, perhaps originally a blanket chest, storage or tool chest ? We believe this piece is continental in origin, it is constructed of solid wood with great hand wrought iron hinges, and trim. The box is in very good, clean and ready to use condition, the lock has the remains of a key lodged in it, and is not functional. The box would latch shut, and can be opened by slightly lifting the top and pushing the latch back manually. We have currently placed a small tack nail in the latch to prevent it from locking, please see images. As this stylish box will probably be repurposed to function as a coffee table, the latch should not really matter, but we describe the condition fully to avoid any misunderstanding, or disappointment upon receipt.
18th C vintage, this wonderful piece has a Primitive, almost Brutalist, look - perfect for todays eclectic interior spaces.
