This pair of original etchings with aquatint by Gerard Fitremann (French, b. 1946) highlights the artist’s bold approach to geometric abstraction and layered color. Each sheet measures 30 by 22 inches and is printed on fine wove paper, chosen for its smooth, archival quality. Using traditional intaglio techniques, Fitremann combines etched linework with aquatint washes to create rich tonal depth and striking contrasts.
Both works feature angular, architectural compositions rendered in vibrant tones of cerulean blue, deep charcoal, golden yellow, and warm orange. Subtle embossing from the plate adds a tactile dimension to the surface, enhancing the layered effect. Each piece is signed by the artist in pencil along the lower edge and numbered 38/90 and 61/90, marking them as part of a scarce, limited edition.
Likely produced in the late twentieth century and sourced from a private collection, the works remain unframed and in excellent vintage condition, showing only mild toning and a few faint marks on the reverse that do not affect the presentation. These etchings make a striking statement when displayed together and will appeal to collectors of European modernism, mid-century abstraction, and contemporary printmaking.
